Tây Đô Cafe (Vietnamese Cuisine)
Tucked away on the lively stretch of Kingsland Road in East London, Tây Đô Cafe (Vietnamese Cuisine) is the kind of place that quietly pulls you in with the comforting aroma of beef broth, sizzling meats, and freshly chopped herbs. It's not flashy, but it's real-offering a warm, no-frills escape into the world of Vietnamese street food, just the way it should be.
You know you’re in the right spot when you walk in and hear the rhythmic clatter of chopsticks meeting ceramic bowls, the gentle buzz of conversations in both English and Vietnamese, and the unmistakable sizzle from the kitchen. The interior is cozy with plenty of seating, and yes, they’ve got wheelchair-accessible options to ensure everyone’s welcome at the table.
Let’s start with what Tây Đô Cafe does best: Beef Pho. It’s rich, aromatic, and layered with that deep umami flavor that only comes from hours of slow simmering. The broth is clean but powerful, with tender beef slices that practically melt on your tongue. Add a squeeze of lime, a handful of bean sprouts, a few Thai basil leaves, and you’ve got comfort in a bowl. For noodle lovers who crave variety, Bun Rieu brings a tangy crab-paste twist that’s worth diving into.
And if noodles aren’t your go-to, you might want to check out their Fried Spring Rolls and Grilled Pork with Vermicelli and Salad. This dish hits every texture and flavor note-crispy rolls, succulent pork, cool vermicelli, and crisp greens, all brought together with a splash of fish sauce dressing. It’s vibrant, it’s fresh, and it’s balanced. The Banh Cuon with Pork, another crowd-favorite, comes silky soft and topped with crispy shallots and fragrant herbs, hitting that ideal savory-soft combo.
Seafood fans are in for a treat too. The Salt and Pepper Squid is punchy and crispy with just the right amount of heat, while the Steamed Sea Bass with Ginger and Spring Onions keeps things delicate and aromatic. These dishes show off the cafe’s lighter side, great for anyone looking for healthier choices without sacrificing flavor.
For something hearty and indulgent, the Char Grilled Pork Served with Steamed Rice delivers on every front-charred edges, juicy center, and a soulful caramelized marinade. Don’t sleep on the Vietnamese Omelette either-it’s fluffy, golden, and generously packed with pork and veg. Perfect with a side of Egg Fried Rice or Tempura for that extra crunch.
When it comes to drinks, Tây Đô Cafe doesn’t disappoint. The Lemonade and Lemon Iced Tea are refreshing classics, but if you’re feeling traditional, a hot cup of Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk will keep you going long after your meal ends.
The service here is fast and friendly, and whether you’re popping in for a quick bite, grabbing takeaway, or sitting down for a late-night food fix, the team makes it work. The menu also features vegetarian options, healthy dishes, and small plates, so there’s something for every appetite and dietary preference.
If you’re dining solo, this place hits the sweet spot with its laid-back vibe and quick service. Craving something more communal? The menu’s built for sharing. The Summer Rolls, Chicken Wings, and Nem Nuong (Vietnamese grilled pork sausages) make excellent starters to pass around. There’s even Chow Mein and Pancakes on the menu if you're in the mood to branch out a bit.
And if you can't stay, no problem-Tây Đô Cafe offers kerbside pickup, no-contact delivery, and catering options. They've truly made it convenient without cutting corners. Whether it's a rainy afternoon craving for pho or a spontaneous dinner with friends, this Vietnamese gem on Kingsland Road feels like a reliable go-to.

You can’t go wrong with Tay Do – it’s cheap and cheerful! We came as a big group, so booking in advance was a good idea. The service was fast, and the Vietnamese food was authentic and delicious. The bun rieu is a standout dish, and the banh cuon is another favorite of mine. Highly recommend for a satisfying and affordable meal!
as a local this is where we go as group and is our food spot. The food, the portion, the people, the interior just makes you feel like you’re eating home cooked food in grandparents kitchen with friends. Good for the soul. Highly recommend !
We were curious about this place as it's been advertised on social media a lot, but it was a disappointment. Food looked better than it tasted. Very plain and tastless Pho, same as the traditional Vietnamese soup we ordered. Service could be a bit nicer too, not very welcoming...
The food is cheap and banging 1⃣bun rieu soup base is sour and slightly sweet, the crab meatball is even bigger than my spooncrazy!!! And it is packed with flavour and super juicy Staff are friendly and always smiling 2⃣Summer rolls(Pork and Prawns) Authentic and yummy Dipping sauce - I can’t taste any peanut in it , it is like only hoisin sauce Honestly, it tastes like something straight out of a Vietnamese home kitchen. Definitely coming back!
Great food but I think the standard drop a little. Great for casual lunch or dinner.
